Rise of the Phoenix with Poplar Running Club

The team is having a well earned rest before plans begin for next years race.

In the meantime, here’s a run down of this year’s event.

On 21st June 2024, the much anticipated Rise of the Phoenix 5 mile Trail Race took place at the picturesque Beacon Hill Country Park.

With nearly 250 runners participating, the event was a resounding success, showcasing the resilience and enthusiasm of the running community.

🔥 Fun run

The kids Fun Run started at 6.30 and was won in fine style by Harry F, followed closely by Finley M and Lucas B

Well done to everyone that took part!

🔥 Canicross Race

Wow! Over 20 dogs & their owners took part and the race was won in a spectacular time of 29:36 by Charlie N - fantastic!

Thank you to eveyone who took part and a huge shoutout to Phoenix Vets for looking out for our 4 legged friends!

🔥 The Main Event - Rise of the Phoenix

The main race kicked off at 7.10pm by our Event Director Marie Moss with a vibrant and energetic atmosphere.

The runners were soon met with the first of 2 hills, but were rewarded with some of the most spectacular views of the Leicestershire countryside.

Water stations and marshalling points were manned by volunteers of Poplar Running Club and our sponsor Moss Solicitors

What goes up must go down and since we mentioned the 2 hills, there were also 2 huge downhill sections - I think we all know which you prefered!

The event attracted a diverse group of participants, including notable local athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Among them was well-known European Cross Country champion, Gemma Steel.

The event also saw a significant turnout from families and community members who came to support the runners, creating a lively and supportive environment.

Please make sure you have followed our pages and joined our groups on social media to find the race results and offical photos and if you came to the race we’d love it if you could leave a review

While you are waiting for next year’s launch - here’s what people thought of our event this year.

Just wanted to say to you and your team that event tonight was an absolutely brilliant event. The hills were a killer and the hardest one I've done but by far THE most enjoyable race I've taken part in. So, thank you so much and please pass on my huge thanks to your team for a lovely evening. Xx

Wow 🤩 …we just wanted to say you (and your team) are amazing 🤩 Fantastic organisation and very clear instructions given.

I also LOVED the spray paint 'downhill from here' at mile 4, that was a huge mental push

Just wanted to say thank you on behalf of the Smalley Road Runners for putting on a great event on Friday. My downhill speed certainly made up for the lack of uphill speed 😂, and will be back next year to battle those hills again....we have unfinished business!

Thank you to everyone who helped on Friday. I thought it was all very well organised, the water stations were at the right places and the Marshalls were very encouraging.

My son LOVES this race! One of his yearly favourites. Course is fantastic, love the hill, the volunteers are brilliant too.

Thank you to all participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event possible. See you next year at the starting line!
